September 26, 2018

It's been about two months since we added a new member to Team R. Miss Hattie (aka #Hattiegirl) settled in quickly and made sure that her presence was felt. She bites, she barks, she paws at our arms and feet. She's chewed, she's eaten, she's cause laughter and worry. And I love her. Almost as much as I love you Baby.

Here's to all of the four-legged members of Team R. Forever will they be in our hearts.

Team R Roll Call

Perfect. In time, in place, in size and shape.
Everything about you was just what was needed
Prior to you it was quiet
Possibly too much
Everyone who met you loved you
Rightfully so. You were wonderful

Filling a hole that wasn't empty yet
It was amazing to see you blossom
Only when you were a single did we really learn about your personality
Nothing prepared us for your leaving us
And we will never forget you

Hardly a sound when we met
Almost too small to be believed
Too long without a furry, fuzzy companion for us
Then you were spotted and it was instant
I knew that you would be ours with that first gasp
Each day has been an adventure, and I love it

Welcome to the team new girlie
Each member is unique and loved

Always know that we love you
Remember that we will always come back
Every time we go, you are with us

Three years between members was a long time
Even though it was good to be free, we missed it
Always looking, checking for the right time; right friend
Missing those who were no longer in the house

Rescuing you was amazing

National Poetry Writing Month - April 17, 2014

Today at work I walked along the beach. I know what you're thinking; a relaxing stroll near the waters edge. Listening to the whoosh of the waves as they lap at the sandy shore. The sound of birds overhead. I did hear the water and the birds and I was at the waters edge. But that was because near the water, I wasn't sinking into the sand and rocks.

The call was one that surprised me and I hoped that it wasn't true. Fortunately I was right.

You Can't Park That There

As I was in my office I heard the call

Where on Earth would we find this one?
Any chance that it was untrue would be grateful
Leaving my office, I sped to the first place I could
Knowing that my shift partner was already on his way

On my way there, he redirected me
Now I headed to a gate and a path that I was vaguely familiar with

To the sandy beach we went
Hoping that the caller was wrong
Even though we were secretly wanting to see it

Better safe than sorry, we went to a fourth sandy spot
Every pore was dumping sweat inside of my armor
And as we walked, we cursed the caller and his call
Coming to the end of the way, there was nothing
Heading up some makeshift stairs, we headed back

June 24, 2011 - 0500

Well, I'm back. I had notes from the first day of my shift which I was working on when I ran out of time. Then there was day two, involving two DUI arrests, felony drug charges, and tons of fun for all involved. I ended up staying late that morning, even though I don't get paid overtime and I was officially on vacation that day. But there was work to be done and I did what I could to see it through.  All of that being said, I have nothing from either of those two days. There was too much going on and then I was away from work and out of state for four days.

Now tonight was my first night back from vacation and it was completely uneventful. Power outages kept most of the real fools away, leaving us with mere simple fools to observe.

Return From My Past

Very little happened while I was away
Although we like to think we are needed
Clearly, when we're gone things barely sway
And when our off time is depleted
Then we're back to work that day
In hopes that criminal oats weren't seeded
Over the town where children play
Next to parks and trees, and parents heeded

Overwhelmed by mail and paperwork
Vexed peer rambles about all things
Everyone ignores his words, yet there I lurk
Right in the door; my head...it rings

Because of storms the town is empty now
A matter of the power being out
Certainly this kept the drunkards out of town
Knowing this is why makes me mentally shout

Taking laps of my businesses and bars
Only so many times, yet I've traveled far

With head lights high we stopped to chat
Only a bit of English was able to be spoken
Reaching in I lower them; that was that
Knowledge that I'm at work with time unbroken

April 25, 2011 - 0500

We start off the week with a fun bit of verse called an acrostic. We've all seen them at one time or another. The first letters spell out words when looked at as one. Tonight, we had to stop and ask a fellow about his run-in with a local bar keeper. The first letters of each line tell the tale of what happened next.

Arrest Acrostic

Choices one make
Often lead to trouble
Complicated by alcohol
Anyone can slip down the wrong path
It's not difficult, however
Not to make the bad choice
Even when it feels good right now

When your choices catch up to you
Average person end up in situations
Rarely ones that they like
Rarely ones that they can get out of alone
An employer or friend who can help
Nearly never happened
Though when they do help, it's quite a relief

After all is said and done
Relying on falsehood doesn't work
Remember, tell the truth to the police
Electronic means will find you out
Sooner or later, you will be found out
There is no eluding the machine
