As ice melts in the door
Rustling leaves on the side of the house
Blowing in the wintry breeze

Neighborhood kids playing on the sidewalk
Crunching frosty bits under boots
Cheeks and chins wind burnt and happy
Thump thump thump
My heart in my breast in the silence
Steady and calm as words finally return
To a page too long empty
